Drew Ruddy went on to become a well known figure in diving. He was the diver who later located the Bank of Rome safe on the wreck of the Andrea Doria.

All of these were packed in a barrel that was recovered from the port side of the forward cargo hold of the blockade running steamer Georgiana.
